The company Doosan Infracore Co., a leading Korean manufacturer of construction machinery and equipment, announced that it would lead a project to develop a new generation excavators having minimal negative environmental impact.
The project is funded by the Government of the Republic of Korea. The Ministry of Science and Economy shall be responsible for its implementation.
Doosan will develop a new generation eco-excavator. It is planned that by 2014, Doosan Infracore has to develop a model of an excavator in a class of operating weight of 22 tons, whose engine would discharge by 35% less greenhouse gas emissions, while the fuel consumption economy of the machine would be also increased by 35%.

Annual savings by operating such machine should be KRW17 million ($ 12,000).

According to a spokesman of the company, the results gained during the implementation of this program will be extended to the development of new wheel loaders and forkloaders.
Total funding of this project, where besides Doosan Infracore there are seven other Korean and foreign organizations, is defined in KRW18 billion.
A subsidiary of Doosan Infracore, the company Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Co., will also participate in the project.
The company said recently that it had won a contract whose value was KRW100 billion ($72.4 million) for the re-equipment of power stations in the country by new, more efficient power plants.
It will be recalled that in 2006 the company Doosan Heavy signed the cooperation agreement with the U.S. company Foster Wheeler, a global leader in the design and
manufacture of steam boilers with circulating fluidized bed, which make it possible to spend less money on the fuel purchase and less pollute the air.
